Regulation in Alberta is expected to occur in the fall of 2019

26 mars 2018

Alberta Health has indicated that there may be a delay in amending the legislation required to regulate sonographers.

As context, the Health Professions Act or HPA, the primary provincial legislation, has been amended to provide that DMS will be regulated through the ACMDTT. For those who are interested, please look at the HPA through http://acmdtt.com/about-us/bylaws-regulations/, Schedule 12. College Regulations (the secondary tier piece of provincial legislation) have not been amended. These changes are required to implement the above change in the HPA, or in other words, to regulate DMS. Therefore we have to wait until the provincial government has made this change. They have indicated that this will likely be in the fall of 2019. When this happens, sonographers will be grand-parented into a regulated status through the ACMDTT.
