New Graduate PLI

Students of accredited sonography programs who have successfully completed their program and the CCSA that have yet to complete their credentialing exams, may be eligible for Interim PLI coverage and Active membership with Sonography Canada.

Eligibility

Whether you plan to work in a regulated or non-regulated province, Sonography Canada must first receive verification from your program confirming that you have successfully completed both your program requirements and the CCSA before you can proceed with upgrading your membership to Active and applying interim PLI to your account.

In Regulated Provinces

If you will be employed in a province where the profession of Sonography is regulated, you must contact the regulatory body for that province to review the requirements for practice before proceeding. A valid license issued by the provincial regulator is required to work as a sonographer in these provinces. The ability to practice before completion of the credentialing exams vary by province.

Provinces that are currently regulated:

Non-Regulated Provinces

In non-regulated provinces, hiring requirements are determined by individual employers.

Key points if practicing as a Recent Graduate before obtaining credentials:

  • Work must be directly supervised during the period covered by interim insurance by a credentialed sonographer or radiologist.
  • Coverage is available for up to 4 years from the date of program completion. The expiry date is listed and cannot be extended.
  • Insurance coverage can be switched to full insurance coverage upon being awarded a Sonography Canada credential, at which time the condition of needing to work under supervision is lifted.
  • Renewal fee is required by April 30th every year. A new application is required if you have not received your Canadian credential by April 30th.

How to proceed:

If you meet the above eligibility criteria or have any questions regarding interim PLI please email info@sonographycanada.ca.
