Salary Range:               $37.85 – $46.39 per hour (Level 14D)

Bi-Weekly Hours:        75 hours bi-weekly / Days / and Evenings and Weekends as needed

The Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer works in a specialized area in the Diagnostic Imaging Department and is required to have knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology and specialized training in Echocardiography. They assume basic administrative responsibilities related to performing echocardiographic examinations and other related and allied duties, which contribute to the orderly and efficient operation of the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

Duties include:

  • performing appropriate echocardiography exams to aid in the diagnosis of the client’s condition and further refining the study with an in-depth evaluation of any abnormalities encountered;
    performing TEE, stress echos, and bubble studies;
  • reviewing image documentation and related data from current or previous exams;
  • producing a complete preliminary report summarizing all technical findings for the interpreting physician;
  • explaining procedures and providing care and comfort to client before, during, and after procedures;
  • obtaining comprehensive and accurate ultrasonic evaluation of cardiac anatomy, function, pathology and hemodynamics;
  • performing appropriate preliminary measurements and calculations notifying reporting physician or referring physician of any urgent findings;
  • entering data on computer and retrieving files;
  • assisting with training of other staff and students;
  • provincial position required to work at both Prince County Hospital (PCH) and QEH
  • other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an accredited Cardiac Ultrasonography Program.
  • Eligible for registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Sonography Canada (SC);
  • Experience with PACS, experience with Viewpoint, EchoPACs, and GE imaging platforms an asset
  • Experience as an Echocardiographer is preferred
  • Experience performing pediatric echocardiogram, transesophageal echocardiograms, dobutamine echocardiograms, exercise stress echocardiograms, and contrast exams are all considered assets.
  • Good previous work and attendance record.
