Diffuse Liver Disease and DopplerMade Easy by Amber Javaid
Originally presented at SonoCon – September 2023
1 Sonography Based CPD Credit
Every disease process that affects the liver has its own characteristic effect on blood flow pat-terns and, therefore, affects the waveforms in a unique way. This fact forms the basis for using spectral Doppler US in diagnostic radiology. Mastery of liver Doppler is achieved when one can fluently transition between what is expected (physiologically or pathologically) and what is observed at spectral Doppler Ultrasound.
Pathologic conditions such as portal hypertension, right-sided heart failure, and tricuspid regurgitation have characteristic effects on Doppler waveforms.
Doppler US remains the “workhorse” modality for the evaluation of TIPS patency. Competency in interpreting these examinations requires an understanding of TIPS anatomy and expected flow patterns.

In the Trenches: The Technically Difficult Study by Carly Burry
Originally presented at SonoCon – September 2023
1 Sonography Based CPD Credit
In this talk we will touch on the obstacles we are up against in daily echo exams ( Obesity, COPD, Vents, Post Op Incisions, Mobility etc) and how they can greatly affect the image quality of our echos, but also us as sonographers and ergonomics. We’ll review some tips and tricks to help obtain better imaging by using the advanced technology of our machines/equipment, but also physical/ ergonomic changes we can do as sonographers during a TDS that will better the study quality and help us decrease the strain it puts on us physically.

Go With the Flow -What you may not know about Vascular ultrasound  by Simon Greenwood
Originally presented at SonoCon – September 2023
1 Sonography Based CPD Credit
This talk will help you to appreciate the full range of Vascular ultrasound scans, learn more about the patient population and variety, impact of findings on specific patients, and showcase some unique and interesting cases that are becoming more routine. You will understand the role of the vascular sonographer, what is assessed during scans, and most importantly, why you should specialize and gain a CRVS credential.

Using Ultrasonography in Assessing Abdominal Lymphedema  by Devin Box & Laryssa Laurignano
Originally presented at SonoCon – September 2023
1 Sonography Based CPD Credit
Lymphedema occurs when excess lymphatic fluid accumulates in subcutaneous tissue. Problems of lymphatic drainage can occur following Deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap procedures, in which a flap of the abdomen is used to reconstruct one or both breasts after mastectomy. There is currently no literature that assesses abdominal lymphedema after DIEP surgery. This study will investigate the validity of ultrasonography (US) as method to quantify abdominal lymphedema post-DIEP flap surgery. US may represent a cost-effective, accessible method to assess abdominal lymphedema. We hypothesize that changes in subcutaneous thickness detected using US will correlate with the clinical evaluation of lymphedema post-DIEP flap surgery. Understanding the validity of US as a tool to quantify abdominal lymphedema will aid the development of interventions to minimize the discomfort, pain, chronic fibrotic changes, and reduced quality of life associated with abdominal lymphedema.
