Your Q2-2025 Association Update: From the Office of the Chief Executive Officer
April 29, 2025
Your Voice Is Helping Shape the Future of Sonography Canada
As we look ahead to the future of Sonography Canada, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank each of you who participated in our recent Member Survey.
Your feedback will help the Board build the roadmap that will guide the work of the association over the coming three years. Whether you shared ideas, identified priorities, or offered suggestions for improvement, please know that your voice matters, and your input will have a real impact on the strategic direction the Board takes in developing our next Strategic Plan.
We were thrilled to see so many of you take advantage of the recent member survey not just for the 1 CPD credit or the chance to win prizes (though we know that doesn’t hurt!)—but because you genuinely care about the future of the profession and the organization. For that, I’m incredibly grateful.
We look forward to sharing insights from the survey and the final strategic plan with you in the months ahead.
Advocacy in Action: Fighting for Student Loan Forgiveness for Sonographers
At the same time, we continue to work on your behalf at the national level. Earlier this year, Sonography Canada took a firm step forward and made a formal request to the federal government that diagnostic medical sonographers be included in the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program.
On March 6, 2025, we sent letters to three key federal ministers—Minister LeBlanc (Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs), Minister MacKinnon (Employment and Workforce Development), and Minister Holland (Health)—urging them to recognize the critical role sonographers play in Canada’s healthcare system, particularly in rural and remote communities.
While we applaud the government’s recent expansion of this program for healthcare and social service providers, sonographers must be part of that conversation. Loan forgiveness would not only ease financial burdens for new graduates but also help attract more sonographers to areas where they’re needed most.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to read the full letters on our website [member login required]—and please, share this message within your networks. Your voice, your story, and your advocacy matter.
Together, we are making meaningful strides towards achieving the recognition and support this profession deserves.
Warm regards,
Susan Clarke, MBA
