Your Q2 Association Update: From the Executive Directors Office

April 25, 2023

Spring is in the air, and we hope that you are enjoying some of the warm weather we have been experiencing of late.

Our Q2 update to our community via SONOgramme outlines some key milestones we have reached, and things we’re working on. We hope you enjoy the read!

We’ve been extremely busy in the past few months, especially advocating for our members in a number of ways.   We are pleased to share that:

  • We issued a letter of support to the Minister of Health, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, in late January 2023 regarding Canada Health Transfer Assurances to the provinces.
  • We sent in a pre-budget submission to the federal government.
  • We met with MPs who sit on the Standing Committee of Health, and key team members of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities in Ontario.  These meetings continue through Q2.
  • And, at the end of March 2023, we shared the Federal Budget Summary with members and were pleased to note that $505 million is being delivered to CIHI and other health partners for improved data has the potential to directly benefit sonographers if we take the appropriate follow-up actions.  You can read more here if you missed it [member login required]

The engagement we’ve had during first few months of 2023 has demonstrated that there is an increasing desire and need for government officials to hear about the role sonographers play on the healthcare team.  This work ties back to the first priority in our Strategic Plan (Work to influence the healthcare system on behalf of sonographers) and we’re encouraged that Sonography Canada and its members are being heard and expect engagement to increase in the coming months.

Now that COVID restrictions have relaxed, we are interacting with other healthcare organizations in person once again. In April, Board members Victor Lee and Laura Prince and I participated in the Canadian Society of Echocardiography’s Echo Weekend and made some excellent professional connections. In late April, we’ll be at the Canadian Association of Radiologists’ annual conference and in May it’s off to the Canadian Association of Allied Health Programs’ annual workshop for educational programs and organizations like ours. It’s amazing what the personal connection can accomplish.

In the last few months, we have also been working away at our 3rd strategic priority (Support members to thrive through all stages of their professional practice).

And while strategic plans have larger goals, with more finite to-dos that take place over the entire plan, we are pleased to report that conversations are taking place with other like-minded organizations to determine how we can partner with each other to continue to deliver the exceptional CPD opportunities you have come to expect from Sonography Canada.

In addition, we are going to be implementing a standing monthly town hall for active members. For those new to the organization, or those who want a refresher of the benefits of membership, you can watch for times to join our Membership & Education team online to get up to speed on many of the benefits your national association has to offer!

We look forward to continuing our service to you,

Susan
