COVID-19 & Sonography Canada Operations
Operating Hours – Working Remotely
The Sonography Canada national office staff are now working remotely. Our team is monitoring voice mail during our regular office hours and returning your calls or responding to email inquiries within 24 hours once they have been received. Our staff may not have immediate access to some information and delays may occur in providing you with the requested details.
While we work remotely, sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org is the best way to reach us. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Credentialing Exams – Postponed
Our examination administrator has closed its testing centres until at least May 22, 2020. Credentialing examinations scheduled for May 7 and 8 have been postponed to Thursday and Friday, June 25 and 26, 2020. Should it be necessary to move the exam dates further, all registered candidates will be notified.
The exam registration deadline of Friday, March 20 has not been extended and no new registrations will be accepted. However, the withdrawal date is extended to May 29, 2020. Please refer to the Examination Withdrawal and Refund Request Form if you wish to withdraw. Questions may be sent to email@example.com.
As the Canadian Clinical Skills Assessments (CCSATM) performed within accredited education programs have been cancelled, students already registered may the write the exams prior to completing the CCSA. Credentials will only be granted once the CCSAs are completed. CCSAs scheduled for external candidates have also been suspended and affected individuals have been notified.
Annual Conference – New Dates Annouced!
SonoCon 2020 has been re-scheduled to later this year in Calgary, AB. The new dates for our national conference are August 28-30, 2020. We are currently finalizing the details and are communicating information to our members as it becomes available. Questions may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
With the instability caused by this pandemic, we are extending the deadline for membership renewals to May 31st, 2020. We’re also offering the opportunity for sonographers to pay their membership in monthly installments to help ease any financial stress in these difficult times. Members have started receiving email notifications inviting them to renew their membership.
Professional Liability Insurance (PLI)
By the terms of our comprehensive PLI policy, there are no specific exclusions relating to transmission of a virus or disease for insured sonographers during the delivery of their professional services, except for circumstances involving alleged or actual abuse. However, this would not be the case if a sonographer were proven to be negligent. In this pandemic scenario, this might consist of a failure to sanitize properly resulting in the transmission of a virus, continuing to work while feeling unwell and transmitting the virus, or failing to self-isolate following travel or exposure to the virus. The onus to prove negligence is placed on those making a complaint. Questions may be sent to email@example.com .
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Our AGM typically takes place during our Annual Conference in May. With the postponement of the conference, we are determining the best option for the AGM and will communicate to members when finalized. Please note that the Agenda, Minutes of the 2019 AGM, the 2019 Audited Financial Statements and any support documents will be made available in the members section of the Sonography Canada website.
Sonography Canada Awards
This year’s winners of Sonography Canada Awards will be announced in May and their achievements will be recognized on our website. Winners will receive their awards by mail and will later be formally acknowledged by their peers at an awards ceremony at SonoCon.
