Happy Fall! Just coming back from SonoCon 2024 and it was SO great to see so many of you in my home province for our annual conference. Thank you once again for joining us this year!
October has been quite the month for Sonography Canada, it almost feels like a year’s worth of activities within 31 days… but I am happy to report them all:
Sonography Week was earlier this month, and the CPD Team produced new content to share with members every day except one… and on that day, Sonography Canada held its first every lobby day where Board and staff descended on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
It was a great first experience – we held 9 meetings with elected officials and key staffers to discuss the importance of ultrasound and of sonographers as a profession in healthcare. We know from their feedback that we certainly opened the eyes of decision makers. We had great takeaways and more follow ups and referrals from that meeting and are very much looking forward to what next steps may come from our first meetings on the Hill.
In preparing for Hill Day, we conducted a fair bit of research…thank you for participating. As a result, we were able to produce a “policy book” of insights and requirements for the profession.
And of course, what is Sonography Week without sonography students. We celebrated our students by giving each one across the country a fun T-shirt… In return, they thanked US by sending some great photos.
We closed off Sonography Week by collaborating with our international counterparts to see what educational content we can pool in the coming year to enhance sonographer continuing education around the world. Stay tuned for speciality days in January, May and September of next year.
I would also like to take this opportunity to share some key dates in the coming months so you can mark your calendars:
- In January 2025, we will be reaching out to our membership with a call for Board Nominations. If you would like to be a part of the Board of Directors, and help shape and guide Sonography Canada – we would love to hear from you!
- Our Annual General Meeting & Education Day, which takes place virtually every year, has been tentatively set for Saturday, June 21, 2025. The day consists of our Annual General Meeting, the business portion of the afternoon, as well as some great content as an opportunity to gain additional CPD.
- And finally, our 2025 installment of SonoCon, as mentioned yesterday will take place at the Hilton Lac-Leamy, just across the bridge from Ottawa, October 2-3, 2025.
