Description:

The Lifetime Achievement Award honors a Sonography Canada member who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and a passion for advancing the profession of sonography. This award acknowledges individuals whose significant contributions over the course of their careers have positively impacted the field of sonography in areas such as education, professional service, patient care, advocacy, preceptorship, and/or research. The recipient of this award is a distinguished leader who has inspired others and has left a lasting legacy within the profession.

Criteria:

  • Membership: Nominees must be Active credentialed members in good standing with Sonography Canada, OR a recently retired member (within the last three calendar years).
  • Experience: Nominees must have a minimum of 20 years of experience in the sonography profession.
  • Contributions: Nominees must have made outstanding and ongoing contributions that have significantly advanced the profession of sonography. These contributions can include, but are not limited to, innovation in clinical practice, education, professional service, patient relations, advocacy, preceptorship (both student and sonographer), and/or research.
  • Leadership: Nominees must be recognized as exceptional leaders who have inspired others in the sonography community to pursue excellence and have shared their valuable experiences with colleagues, students, and the broader community.
  • Impact: The nominee’s contributions should have had a meaningful and sustained impact on the sonography profession at the community, provincial, national, and/or international levels.

Nominations Process:

Nominations must be submitted by an Active credentialed Member of Sonography Canada. The nomination submitted must be complete. The nomination must include an essay of 1,000 words or less describing how the nominee meets the award criteria. The essay should cover the following aspects:

  • Achievements: A list of the nominee’s outstanding lifetime achievements in areas such as clinical practice, education, research, professional service, or innovation.
  • Contributions & Impact: A detailed account of the nominee’s significant contributions to the sonography profession and the impact these contributions have had on a community, provincial, national, or international level.
  • Leadership: An explanation of how the nominee has demonstrated exceptional leadership and how their work has inspired others within the sonography profession.

Supporting documents (optional): Nominators may include news articles, publications, certifications, or other recognitions as evidence of the nominee’s contributions.

Selection Process:

Review Committee: A selection committee [Awards Committee] will review all submitted nominations. The committee will assess nominees based on the significance, scope, and longevity of their contributions to the sonography profession. An established rubric will be utilized for fair and transparent evaluation.

Criteria for Evaluation:

  • Impact on the Profession: The degree to which the nominee’s contributions have advanced the profession of sonography.
  • Leadership: The nominee’s ability to inspire others and demonstrate leadership within the sonography community.
  • Sustained Excellence: The nominee’s consistent and long-term commitment to advancing the field of sonography.

Award:

  • Award of Recognition
  • The recipient(s) will be granted Lifetime Membership (excluding PLI).
  • The winner(s) will be announced at the Sonography Canada annual conference.
  • Conference Registration & Travel Expenses: Conference registration, travel and accommodation will be provided as per the Sonography Canada Travel Policy for the immediate next available conference.  Deferring registration and travel to alternate year(s) will not be permitted.
